Temporary Ordination for Women - A Special Retreat in 2013

Temporary Ordination for Women - A Special Retreat in 2013
From September 27 to October 6 in 2013, the retreat center ‘Passaddhi’ in Ireland will offer a special opportunity for women to ordain as a Buddhist nun on a temporary basis. Temporary ordination for both women and men is a common practice in Burma.
This kind of ordination offers an opportunity to first-hand experience the shift from being a lay person to becoming a monastic. Already shaving one’s head and wearing the monastic robes proves to be a powerful outer transformation that can have a deep impact on one’s inner life and practice. It allows to let go of outer bondages and restrictions and, therefore, to fully immerse one’s heart into the practice of the Dhamma.
The ordination and retreat will be carried out by Ven. Ariya Ñani, a Swiss nun who has been ordained in the Burmese tradition since 1992.”
